Art for All Seasons Blog Tour

I am so excited to share my friend Susan's latest book, Art for All Seasons
This treasure of a book includes 40 art lessons (or more accurately, guided inspirations) for kids. The projects are inspired by nature and grouped into four categories based on the seasons.

As in Susan's previous books, many of the awesome tutorials are inspired by working artists. I am totally honored that Susan chose one of my felt banners to provide inspiration for her leaf table runner lesson.

Each lesson starts with a list of needed materials, a photo of the finished project and a tidbit about the inspiring artist.

Easy to follow instructions guide the reader through the project along with great photos by Susan's husband, Rainer.

This book is fantastic for parents, grandparents, caregivers and teachers alike.
Head over to Susan's blog to follow the rest of Art for All Seasons' book tour- there are even chances to win a free book!

A New Owner for the Shop!

Wonderful news! The brick and mortar part of Lucy's will have a new owner.

Jennifer Blosser will be taking over the shop mid-March. You will still find all of your favorite artists here along with Jennifer's new visions to make the shop even more fabulous.

My last day in the shop will be March 8th. We'll close for about a week and then you can visit Jennifer in her store. Thank you all for your continued support!

A New Chapter

Dear Friends,

With a great deal of sadness, I am writing to tell you that Lucy's (in its current form) will be closing at the end of February. I can't thank you all enough for your enthusiasm and support over the last 4 years.

Dover has proven to be a community that cares about its local businesses. You have embraced Lucy's and the work of our many local artists. Lovingly handmade art and gifts by over 60 artists went to good homes in the month of December alone!

As many of you know, I have a 10 month old "shop assistant" and it is time to make a change. This isn't the end of Lucy's but just the start of a new chapter. You can still find goodies in Lucy's etsy shop and at upcoming craft shows. Hopefully the future will bring a Lucy's holiday pop-up shop.

Truly, this has been an amazing experience and it's not over yet! There will be lots of fun in the coming month including a Morgan McGeehan Designs jewelry trunk show on Saturday February 1st and the opening reception for Lucy's Retrospective Group show on Friday February 7th.

So, get in here, use those gift certificates and stock up on your handmade needs. You are all the best. I am so fortunate to have made such wonderful friends through this great adventure.

My very best,
Daisy

Spooky Spectacular

Lucy's Art Emporium embraces the fun of the Halloween season with its group show Spooky Spectacular. A selection of Lucy's artists have let their imaginations wander toward the creepy, crawly and mysterious in a variety of media.

Newmarket artist Stacey Durand will show small drawings of chill-worthy creatures as well as adorable crocheted pumpkins. Jennifer Omand of Squarecat Comics will bring her usual quirky humor to pen and inks like "Wolfman and Piggie" while other artists will use collage, paint and fabric to bring life to bats, cats, shadows and full moons.

This show will run from October 3rd through the 30th with an opening reception Friday October 4th 5:30-7:30 PM. The opening is free and open to the public, light refreshments will be served. This will also be the night of the Dover art walk- take a stroll to other galleries. Lucy's is located at 303 Central Avenue in Dover (just across from city hall). Portraits: Real & Imagined

Lucy's Art Emporium will host the work of Abby Mariah Wentworth. Abby has created a series of intriguing figure studies for her show, Portraits: Real & Imagined. Some of the collection depict people close to Abby while others like The Elusive Blue Lobster bring the viewer to a completely mythical world.

Abby's paintings are colorful and full of intriguing details. She often utilizes upcycled materials like repurposed cutting boards for her painting surfaces. Abby will also display her greeting cards, screen-printed earth flags and self-published children's books.

This show will run from October 2nd through 31st with and opening reception Friday October 12th from 5-7 PM. The opening is free and open to the public, light refreshments will be served. Lucy's is located at 303 Central Avenue in Dover (just across from city hall).

Lucy's Welcomes Carey Armstrong-Ellis

Line Dance, Oil

It is impossible to keep from smiling when enjoying the artwork of Maine illustrator, Carey Armstrong-Ellis. Ellis brings a cheerful and humorous touch to everything she creates.

Carey is truly a multi-talented artist who masterfully divides her time between painting, illustration and whimsical fiber art. Her illustrations have been published in a variety of wonderful children's books including several written by Carey herself.

Happy Bees, Eating Swiss Cheese

Gouache & Colored Pencil

The show at Lucy's will feature originals in oil, gouache and colored pencil and fabric collage. Lucy's regulars will recognize Carey's homage to the Muppets prints as well as originals of  Line Dance and Attack of the Zombie Heads. In each of these pieces, Carey has set up a still life of action figures and toys and painted them as though they were living subjects. In doing so, she takes our childhood memories, adds a storyline and creates a charming piece of artwork.

Take a gander at Carey's website, www.slugworksrocks.com where she shares lots of her fabulous artwork, views of her studio and other fun treats!
